Just my take on this (salt it any way you want).

The HDMI® standard has not so much changed but maybe been added to over the few short years it has been in place. It may now be confusing to the average consumer to add version numbers to it ..... do I need version 3, or 4, or 4a ??? It appears as though you can use the version number as long as you include and define the capabilities of it up front in the labeling or branding of the product.

Another take away could be for retailers of HDMI® product to recognize the HDMI® logo correctly so we know that what we are putting out there is legit(?).

hdmi.org should clear the air about all of this.

Hi Larry

Excellent review You are absolutely right about the problems with UPC routers. I tried to install this system on a UPC router and it simply doesn't work. Sonos confirmed it won't work with any Cisco EPC routers which covers about 90% of all UPC customers and given that UPC must now be just about the biggest supplier of broadband in Dublin if not Ireland then this is a very significant issue for this product in Ireland.

I contacted Peats of Parnell Street where the Sonos system was sold to us on the basis that it "would work with ANY wireless broadband". They initially blamed our PC for the problem and when told that Sonos themselves said that it had no hope of working with a UPC router then Peats denied there was a problem with UPC routers and simply didn't want to know and attempted to flog the extra equipment required (a wireless access point) for 80 euro which was a bridge too far having spent 450 euro for Sonos already. Very shoddy Peats!! (and not to impressive by Sonos that thay have such a huge compatibility problem)

Regards

Totally agree that no amount of latest technology will make us happy. It is more of the process of meddling, making sense and incorporating it into your lifestyle that is satisfying. Thanks for leaving comments in my blog too.
